As part of the continued investment in product development, we are now seeking to recruit a small number of Trainee Actuaries for fixed term contract roles for 23 months duration.

This is a fantastic opportunity that will suit someone with established numerical skills looking to embark or develop their professional Actuarial career path. We are interested in hearing from recent Graduates from a numerical discipline as well as those with work experience that have started their Actuarial exams.

Who we are

In 2000, Canada Life launched into the German life insurance market, through Canada Life Assurance Europe plc. with offices in Dublin and Germany. In 2003, Canada Life purchased Prudential’s business in Germany, and since then the German business has grown to have a significant share of its target segment within the German life insurance market. Canada Life Europe focuses on pensions and individual protection products, offering a combination of unit-linked funds, unitised with profits funds and variable annuity business within its pension products.

The Role

Managed by the Canada Life Europe Head of Actuarial Controls and Services and based in Dublin, the Actuarial Services Team is responsible for providing actuarial services to the business, both on an ongoing basis and as a key contributor to projects.

The successful candidate will report into the Team Manager and will be expected to pursue professional examinations of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. CLE offers a generous study scheme, including paid study leave, tutorials and course material. Trainee Actuaries may be involved in any part of the Actuarial Services team, with particular emphasis on the manual calculation of individual policy requests.

We are looking for someone with good experience in MS Office who can bring this along with a can do attitude and commitment to team collaboration to this small but busy team. There will be a focus on meeting daily deadlines, with potential for streamlining operations and improving efficiency of manual processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibility are:

Ø Performing various manual calculations on a policy level, working on many life insurance product types including unit-linked, unitised with-profits and non-linked

Ø Supporting the team in achieving and maintaining excellent Service Level Agreement results

Ø Providing actuarial and technical support for queries from clients, sales channels and non-actuarial teams

Ø Identifying and reporting data issues on the Administration system

Ø Providing Actuarial support to any projects relating to existing business, policy reviews, maturity calculations, ongoing administration or system integrity

Ø A strong customer service focus with an ability to meet challenging deadlines

What we are looking for…he ideal candidate should have / be

Essential requirements:

Ø A degree (min. 2.1) in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics (or other numerical discipline) and strong record of academic achievement through their studies

Ø A commitment and interest in progressing through the Actuarial Professional exams

Ø A can do attitude with a willingness to complete manual calculations when required

Ø Very efficient in a team environment with proven work experience in a team setting through college or work experience

Ø Highly numerate and very strong attention to detail

Ø Strong accuracy and a methodical manner

Ø Methodical in their approach to work with a focus on meeting deadlines

Ø Well developed MS Office skills

Ø An analytical approach to problem solving with a keen eye on working within deadlines

Ø Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal)

Ø A flexible approach to work and able to work off own initiative

Desirable requirements:

Ø Exposure to programming, spreadsheet design and/or coding

Ø Commercially aware with an eye for customer fairness

Ø Experience of documenting processes

Ø German language skill would be an advantage but not a necessity

Ø Proven work experience through internships or relevant professional experience

Ø Actuarial background with demonstrable progress through exams
